Mako 17
Why it matters
Mako built the boats that Florida fishing guides trusted. The 17 was the sweet spot — big enough to handle offshore conditions, small enough to trailer anywhere. The design influenced every center console that followed. When someone says 'center console,' they're describing what Mako invented.

Patina notes
Guide boats live hard lives. Working Makos show the scars of thousands of charters: worn nonskid, sun-faded gel coat, hardware corroded by salt and fish blood. The good ones are still running charters. The patina is proof of capability.
Preservation reality
Classic Makos are affordable and available. The utilitarian design means most owners focus on function over show. Finding a clean original is rare — most have been modified for specific fishing applications. The community values performance over originality.
