Modern Classic

1975-2000

The restoration movement begins. Enthusiasts rediscovered wooden boats. ACBS chapters formed. Boat shows celebrated the classics. What was old became collectible.

Historical context

By the 1980s, the wooden boats that survived the transition became collectible. The Antique and Classic Boat Society organized shows. Restoration shops appeared. People who remembered lake summers in the 1950s wanted that experience again — and they were willing to pay. The wooden boat community was born.
